DAVE THE DIVER Guide to Netting and Hush Darting

Going over the fish you can catch at 3 stars with the regular net gun, the hush dart, and their ultimate upgraded versions and the fish they add to the count. There are differences in the usage here, and you will want to know them for the Marinca rating and fish farming. Obviously excluding things you catch with a butterfly net or the heavy duty gloves like shrimp and sea urchin. I will be using “catch” to pretty much mean “catch at a 3 star rating.”

Regular Net Gun

Guide to Netting and Hush Darting

The net gun is a fantastic weapon and what I use for pretty much all general purpose dives. It catches multiple fish at high grades, plus in the later points in the game you don’t need to stress too much about protective choices since your harpoon is going to do a ton of the heavy lifting in that department. Just all around a great choice. I’ll be separating the gun into the different depth sections and putting those into two categories: fish you can catch and fish you can’t.

Hush Dart

Guide to Netting and Hush Darting

While the hush dart catches pretty much all the same fish as the net gun, it can catch a few more, but the drawback is that it takes a while to wait for the fish to tranquilize and you can only catch a few individuals. I recommend using this to catch the larger fish until you can breed them in your farm, then go back to using the net gun for general use. This will be categorized the same as the net gun but I will be adding a little blurb at the end of each “can catch” list with a summary of the fish you can catch with the hush dart that you can’t with the net gun.

Blue Hole Shallows: Can Catch

  • Clownfish
  • Comber
  • Cardinal Fish
  • Sea Goldie
  • Pyramid Butterflyfish
  • Yellow Tang
  • Blackspot Seabream
  • Orbicular Batfish
  • Blue Tang
  • Rainbow Wrasse
  • Lagoon Triggerfish
  • Small Spotted Dart
  • Yellowback Fusiler
  • Ornate Wrasse
  • Longfin Batfish
  • Mediterranean Parrotfish
  • Redtoothed Triggerfish
  • Black and White Snapper
  • Green Humphead Parrotfish
  • Barrel Jellyfish
  • Fried Egg Jellyfish
  • Starry Puffer
  • Moray Eel
  • Red Lionfish
  • Titan Triggerfish
  • Box Jellyfish
  • Flame Angelfish
  • Emperor Angelfish
  • Striped Catfish
  • Sheepshead

Changes of note from the Net Gun: with the hush dart you can catch larger fish like the parrotfish, titan triggerfish, and sheepshead.

Blue Hole Shallows: Can’t Catch

  • Whitetip Reefshar
  • Blacktip Reefshark
  • Copper Shark
  • Bluefin Tuna
  • Yellowfin Tuna
  • Stringray
  • Marbled Electric Ray
  • Shortfin Mako
  • Zebra Shark
  • Marlin
  • Thresher Shark

Blue Hole Medium Depth: Can Catch

  • Bluehead Tilefish
  • Clown Frogfish
  • Painted Comber
  • Bigeye Scad
  • Striped Red Mullet
  • Mackerel Scad
  • Harlequin Hind
  • Bigeye Trevally
  • Coral Trout
  • Grey Triggerfish
  • Atlantic Bonito
  • White Trevally
  • Cuttlefish
  • Dusky Grouper
  • Devil Scorpionfish
  • Antlantic Mackerel
  • Giant Trevally
  • White Spotted Jellyfish
  • Great Barracuda
  • Narrow-Barred Spanish Mackerel
  • Atlantic Angerfish

Here, the hush dart can help you can the giant trevally, great barracuda, and atlantic anglerfish in addition to the net gun’s list.

Blue Hole Medium Depth: Can’t Catch

  • Tigershark
  • Longnose Sawshark
  • Sally Lightfoot Crab
  • Sailfish
  • Smooth Hammerhead
  • Humboldt Squid

Blue Hole Depths: Can Catch

  • Fangtooth
  • Sea Toad
  • Salmon Snailfish
  • Pacific Fanfish
  • Three Tooth Puffer
  • Comb Jelly
  • Blood-Belly Comb Jellyfish
  • Red Bream

Nothing changes in the depths in terms of what you can catch. I recommend finding and using a tranquilizer version of a regular gun, a tranq harpoon tip, or the squeaky toy hammer to catch the larger fish here.

Blue Hole Depths: Can’t Catch

  • Frilled Shark
  • Bluespotted Stargazer
  • Rhinochimaeridae
  • Spider Crab
  • Megamouth Shark
  • Cookiecutter Shark

Glacier Passage: Can Catch

  • Peacock Squid
  • Dumbo Squid
  • Barreleye
  • Blobfish
  • Vampire Fish
  • Pelican Eel

Fortunately, the hush dart allows you to catch the one thing the net gun couldn’t in this zone.

Glacier Passage: Can’t Catch

There is nothing the Hush Dart can’t catch in this zone.

Glacier Zone: Can Catch

  • Arctic Cod
  • Gelatinous Snailfish
  • Antarctic Octopus
  • Polar Eelpout
  • Ice Fish
  • Capelin
  • Haddock
  • Arctic Telescope Fish
  • Alaska Pollock
  • Lumpfish
  • Snub-nosed Spiny Eel

Nothing changes in the Glacier Zone either, since the net gun can actually catch the spiny eel in this zone.

Glacier Zone: Can’t Catch

  • Greenland Shark
  • Porbeagle Shark
  • Narwhal
  • Starry Skate

Hydrothermal Vents: Can Catch

  • Pikaia
  • Allenypterus
  • Qingmendus
  • Falcatus

The only difference at the Hydrothermal Vents is that you can catch the falcatus with the hush dart. Everything bigger will require a tranq harpoon/gun or a squeaky toy hammer.

Hydrothermal Vents: Can’t Catch

  • Drepanaspis
  • Dunkleosteus
  • Megalograptus
  • Xenacanthus
