Heart events are strictly chronological. You must trigger and view the events for 2, 4, 6, and 8 hearts in order before the 10-heart event becomes available.

If an event won’t start, try interacting with the NPC through chat or gifts. Avoid teleporting directly to locations; walking into the target area is often required to hit the trigger point.

Only one event can trigger at a time in a specific map. If multiple events are pending in one spot, complete one, leave the area entirely, and re-enter to start the next.

Many high-level events are locked behind mail. Even if you meet the heart requirements, the event remains inactive until you physically open and read the specific invitation letter.

To tie the knot, viewing the 10-heart event is just the start. You must also complete Wan Huan’s 8-heart event and receive her follow-up letter to unlock the marriage mechanic.

Once married, the “romance” path for other NPCs closes. You will no longer be able to view their 10-heart confession events; instead, they will simply provide their unique gift at the 8-heart threshold.

Marriage Checklist

So, you’re ready to settle down, but the game isn’t making it easy? Here is a straightforward, no-nonsense guide on how to actually tie the knot without losing your mind.

You can tackle these in any order, but you’ll need to check every box before you can walk down the aisle.

1. Max out your hearts with your chosen spouse. You need to see all their heart events and-obviously-accept their confession when they offer it.
2. You can’t skip Wan Huan. You need to max out her hearts and see all of her specific events, too.
3. Go to the shop and upgrade your house at least once. No one wants to move into a tiny starter shack.
4. Once the criteria above are met and you’ve been “dating” for at least five days, keep an eye on your mail. Wan Huan will send a letter inviting you over. Head to her house to trigger the final “spouse selection” scene.

Marriage FAQ

What does a spouse actually do? They’ll give you occasional gifts (different spouses give different items), but don’t expect them to help on the farm. They are strictly here for the vibes, not the manual labor.

If they won’t help on the farm, who will? If you’re tired of doing everything yourself, you need to hire help. Befriend Xia Yingjie (for crops) and Diao Yun’er (for animals). They charge a small fee, but it’s worth it to save your stamina.

Can we have kids? Not right now. As of version 1.0.10.2, kids aren’t in the game. Maybe in a future update!

How do I get Wan Huan to like me faster? She’s a big fan of fish. If you want a budget-friendly way to her heart, just keep her stocked with Grilled Fish.

What if multiple people confess to me? Don’t sweat it. You can accept multiple confessions without any “cheating” drama. When the time comes to marry, you’ll just pick your favorite from the list of people you’ve dated. Rejecting someone doesn’t have a penalty either, so play it however you like.

Can I get a divorce? Short answer: No. Pick wisely, because as far as we know, you’re in this for the long haul.

I accidentally rejected the person I wanted! Help? If it just happened, restart your day immediately. If you’ve already saved, try loading a backup file. If that’s not an option, you’re out of luck for this playthrough—there’s currently no way to “un-reject” someone.
