Console

If you want to make things a lot quicker by loading directly into the maps, you can use a Console command to do so. But first, we need to enable the Console.

  • Click the Options tab in the menu
  • Select the Keyboard tab on the top of the small window
  • Select the Advanced tab on the bottom
  • And finally check the option Enable developer console. and apply the changes

With the developer console enabled, you can now press ‘ (Default key) to open it, and now type the command “Map(Map Code name)“.

The part with the orange outline is a mere example of a map code name.

What you are doing is basically telling the game to load directly into a section of the map named ___, now if you don’t know the code names for each map of the game, there is a link in the very top of the guide that leads to a list of Half-Life 2 maps. Copy the map code name the achievement section is asking in the list and paste it on the console, it should look like this:

If done correctly, you will load successfully in the map, but if you really want to, you can unlock nearly all achievements in a single run.

Watch Your Head!

Requirement: As Gordon and Alyx advance towards the Citadel’s central core, they both reach to an elevator. Many falling debris will start falling from above, you will have to shove them using your Super Gravity Gun, after some minutes a huge pile of metal will fall from above and you will have to get off the elevator. Once you successfully escape and the elevator crumbles, the achievement is unlocked.

Think Fast!

Half-Life 2 Episode 1 Achievements GuideDescription: Kill an Elite Soldier with his own energy ball.

Requirement: When fighting against Elite Combine soldiers, always remember to have your Super Gravity Gun out and wait them to fire an energy ball. If you sucessfully catch the energy ball — simply throw it back at the same Elite soldier that fired it. Killing him should unlock the achievement.

Pacifist

Half-Life 2 Episode 1 Achievements GuideDescription: Contain the Citadel core without killing any stalkers.

Requirement: Same as the Containment achievement, however, this time, it is crucial that you spare the two stalkers within the reactor core room. Remember, you are only prohibited from eliminating the stalkers in that specific room; anywhere else is permited. You will need to swiftly maneuver through the bridges before any stalker manages to dismantle them, while also being mindful of stalkers who may target you directly. Once you successfully navigate the bridges without harming any stalkers within the reactor core room and finally contain the Citadel’s core, the achievement will unlock. (You can unlock both Containment and Pacifist achievements in the same walkthrough.)

Conservationist

Half-Life 2 Episode 1 Achievements GuideDescription: Kill five enemies with the same energy ball.

Requirement: When you are inside the Citadel’s reactor core room, you will find a small hallway that leads to another room. Before entering it, make sure to grab an energy ball and save the game. When you enter the hallway, make sure you hit all five combine soldiers, do not worry if you missed the shot, as you can load again. A very useful trick, is to throw the energy ball and hit some soldiers and pick it up again and throw it one more time. If done correctly, the achievement unlocks.

Containment

Half-Life 2 Episode 1 Achievements GuideDescription: Contain the Citadel core. (This achievement is unskippable)

Requirement: When you are inside the Citadel’s reactor core room, you will find a small hallway that leads to another room. You will have to shoot energy balls inside many core like machines. Once you contain the citadel’s core, you should get the achievement.

The One Free Bullet

Half-Life 2 Episode 1 Achievements GuideDescription: Finish the game firing exactly one bullet. Grenade, crowbar, rocket, and Gravity Gun kills are okay!

Requirement: According to the achievement’s specifications, your goal is to fire only one bullet. It is important to note that the use of grenades, crowbars, rocket launchers, and Gravity Guns is allowed. However, it is essential to comply with the achievement’s specific instructions, which prohibit firing one bullet from each weapon. The only instance in which firing a single bullet is necessary is when Gordon and Alyx are inside a tunnel in City 17 where they need to activate the power supply from the opposite side to continue forward, you will need to shoot down the lock to proceed to the next room to reach the power supply. From that point onward, the use of firearms is strictly prohibited.

Car Crusher

Half-Life 2 Episode 1 Achievements GuideDescription: Use the cars to squash 15 antlions in Episode One.

Requirement: To unlock this achievement, all you need to do Is to kill many antlions as you can with cars, you can push them with the Gravity Gun. The first and best way to do this, Is when you first encounter a antlion cave in Low Life, these antlion caves spawn antlions infinitely, just keep pushing the car against them and you should unlock the achievement sucessfully.

Zombie-que

Requirement: Through the underground tunnels, you will find various flares and necrotics (zombies), make sure you light as many zombies as you can. You will definitely unlock this achievement In the elevator hold out area where you will need to call an elevator so you and Alyx can reach to the surface. As there is a plentiful amount of flares there.

Live Bait

Half-Life 2 Episode 1 Achievements GuideDescription: Help Alyx snipe 30 enemies in Episode One.

Requirement: Once you kill a sniper in City 17, Alyx will climb a scaffolding and will aid you with a sniper. The best strategy to unlock this achievement Is to let Alyx shoot all enemies, if you feel overwhelmed, just keep running around the enemies or seek cover. After thirty kills, the achievement should be unlocked.

Attica!

Citizen Escort

Half-Life 2 Episode 1 Achievements GuideDescription: Don’t let any citizens die when escorting them to the escape train.

Requirement: This achievement depends a lot on your skills. When you are escorting citizens, always pay attention to your surroundings, never let them fight combine soldiers alone. There will be five citizen groups that you will have to escort.

3rd Group:4 Citizens // Combine at the hospital roof, elite combine at the train garage window (EVENT: Train Drops), Combine soldiers at the roof of a train, shotgunners at the train garage window // ACP Vehicle, Combine soldiers everywhere.

4th Group:2 Citizens // Combine at the hospital roof, combine at the train garage locked door, shotgunners at the train garage window // Metropolice everywhere, Manhacks, Combine at the hospital roof.

Last Group:2 Citizens, Barney // Combine soldiers at the roof of a train, shotgunners at the train garage window.

Escape From City 17

Requirement: All you have to do Is to finish the game. After you defeat the strider in the train station, you will need to enter a train with Alyx to finally escape City 17. Aswell getting the achievement, if you managed to fire only one bullet during the entire game, you should aswell get the The One Free Bullet achievement.
