How To Re-Enable Addons For Versus
Back in November 2018, Valve has released an update that disabled all addons in all versus game-modes in every Official Dedicated server they run. This also includes Community Dedicated and Local servers (this also includes versus mutations, addon or otherwise). This is a huge problem for custom campaigns primarily because it counts as an addon, which causes crashes for Community Dedicated servers and an Engine Error CTD when starting a Local Server (due to “reaching the VPK limit” when this is obviously not the case). Fortunately, this guide will explain how to remedy the restriction.
- (Local Servers) Locate and open “addonconfig.cfg” in “Left 4 Dead 2/left4dead2/cfg”.
- (Community Dedicated Servers) Locate and open “addonconfig.cfg” in “<your server directory>/left4dead2/cfg”
- Change all “RestrictAddons” values to 0.
- Save changes and enjoy hosting your local versus server.
While official dedicated servers run by valve will never have this change, community official dedicated servers can. Of course, you can always just host a local server.
