To be quite honest, we think this is probably the hardest initial boss fight in the game (out of all of the 8 characters’ Chapter 1). We are fightning both of the Captains at the same time and they do look quite intimidating. They have a lot of SP as well, so we’ll have to take this nice and slow. You are not going to want to target both at the same time. We’ll have to focus on one at a time. Let me start out with their attacks.

The following are Mikk’s attacks (slimmer one):

  • Attack: High physical damage to one character.
  • Slice: Higher physical damage to one character.
  • Mutiny: High physical damage to all character.
  • Me mate’s got me back!: Uses Cover to protect Makk from attacks.
  • We’ll make ye walk the plank!: Gives himself a 5-turn buff on Physical Attack and Physical Defense when the other is killed.

The following are Makk’s attacks (the one on the bottom):

  • Attack: Medium physical damage to one character.
  • Slice: Medium-high physical damage to one character.
  • Mutiny: Medium physical damage to all character.
  • Me mate’s got me back!: Uses Cover to protect Mikk from attacks.
  • We’ll make ye walk the plank!: Gives himself a 5-turn buff on Physical Attack and Physical Defense when the other is killed.

This fight can be a bit annoying, I’m not going to lie. Mikk is much stronger than Makk and has less HP, so you want to be focusing more on him first. Thankfully, since Tressa has a Bow, a Spear and Wind magic, we can exploit their weaknesses. Start by using your Spear attacks on Mikk. Lower his SP (Shield Points) until you break it, but don’t use your BP. Once his shield is destroyed, attack him with a Lv. 4 Spear attack to deal some massive damage. You’ll want to do this a couple times to defeat him. The same can be done with Makk. He’s weak to Bow attacks, so attack him until you break his shield and then unleash your wratch on him.

If they use their Me mate’s got me back! move, it’ll make the fight much more frustrating. The use the move Cover (from other Final Fantasies) to protect their mate from your incoming attack. So if you’re planning on attacking him with a weakness, he’ll end up taking the hit and not breaking any SP. To counter this, use your Wind spell Tradewinds to damage whichever. They’re both weak to Wind so you’ll still deal a nice amount of damage.

Overall, not a hard fight, but can be frustrating due to their Cover move.
