Deleting character / Starting a new game

If you just want to delete your character & start new, all you have to do is press ESC (in game), then select Gameplay. Inside this menu is an option to delete your character. Once you press that, click on the faint text box with your mouse, & type “delete”. After this confirm your selection, & you will be taken back to the character creation menu.

NOTE: Only the character will be new, the “world” is still the same. So any structure or other items will still be in that world. You will not be able to access them, since you are now a new (different) character than before. It is recommended to remove doors prior to deleting your character, so that you may still use these “abandoned” structures as a way to get out of the elements. Note: you can also delete these structures with build tools & E radial menu.

Building structures

How do you start building? I don’t see any building in my inventory.

You have to first make a Mallet, which when equipped on hotbar, & activated, will have its own radial menu of building items. Various other tools have different styles of building structures.

  • Mallet – Log structures
  • Claw hammer – Refined structures
  • Hammer – Plank structures
  • Trowel – Brick structures
  • Hand saw – Fort Wall structures
  • Farm Hoe – Livestock structures

To demolish structures & receive some materials back, craft a Sledge Hammer.
Otherwise you can also demolish parts by looking at them & then press & hold “E”. Note: this does not return any resources to you.

In-game camera image save location

So, it’s not an easy location to find, it’s:

C:/users/USER_ID/appdata/local/outlaws/saved/screenshots/windowsnoeditor

For me, the game is on my C:/ drive – I guess if you’ve got it in another location then it’s probably that drive letter.

Getting to the appdata folder is a bit of a carry on – you probably need to search for %appdata% – as the folder is usually automatically hidden so people don’t accidentally delete something essential.

It would be much more convenient if the camera just saved pictures in the Steam screenshot folder, but hey ho…

Console Commands

Here is the list of the different game commands available in Outlaws of the Old West. While playing the game, press Shift and Tilde ~ (The key above TAB) to display the console window.

Note: To become Admin on your Outlaws server, you take your Steam64ID and go to “My Server” and to the basic settings in the web interface. There you will find the admin, whitelist and banlist boxes. Just enter your ID there. For multiple admins, write the Steam64IDs just below each other. Then you save the file and restart your server once.

Important: The commands must be entered in the console NOT in the chat. The console can be opened with SHIFT + ~!

GMBuff

Activating Admin Rights

The steps to make it so you can access Admin controls:

Note: This works in single-player games also.

1. First you need to navigate to the correct folder location;

  • Correct folder location: F:\Steam\steamapps\Common\steamapps\common\Outlaws of the Old West\WindowsServer\Outlaws\Saved. NOTE: My Steam games are installed on F: drive, yours are more likely installed on C: drive.
  • Wrong folder location: C:\Users\USER_ID\AppData\Local\Outlaws\Saved. NOTE: change USER_ID to your computer’s USER_ID.

2. Next you need to add your Steam ID to the AdminList.txt file

  • If there is no AdminList.txt file, create one. Plain text file, don’t use MS Word or other word processor.
  • Add you Steam ID number to this file. Your Steam ID is 17 characters long. It often displays near the top of your Steam page. Else there is online sites that you can find your Steam ID. It is often also called Steam64 ID. Save the file.

3. Restart Outlaws game.

4. When in-game press SHIFT+~ (Tilde key is right above TAB key on left side of keyboard). Note: if you are from a non-English area, you may have to set your keyboard to English to access the tilde key.

5. Type “ActivateAdmin” in the console text box that appears in the bottom middle of the screen.

6. Press ENTER.

7. Now when you press ESC, you should see Admin option appear there.

If all works as listed then success!

From now on you can use the SHIFT+~ to open the console box, & type in (or copy & paste) any Admin command.
