Oxygen Not Included Ultimate Solo Spacefarer Nosecone (w/ Orbital Data Collections Lab)

The only Orbital Data Collections Lab you’ll ever need. Meant to be used with the Carbon Dioxide Rocket Engine, you can get all the Data Banks you need for the entire research tree (1700) in one trip.

Max Decor

The basic concept here is to maximize Decor so that you can basically ignore everything else. Maximum decor gives a +12 morale bonus. A Great Hall(+6), Washroom(+2), and Private Bedroom(+3), only give +11 total. Not having a bed just gives a small penalty to Athletics, which doesn’t matter on a rocket. Radiation will kill all germs, so no Hand Sanitizer is needed, and the Mess Table is only useful for the room bonus, so all 3 can safely be ignored. Your dupe will probably need an outfit, and everything is made from Gold, Gold Amalgam and Granite for the maximum possible decor. Don’t forget the Drywall.

Refrigeration

The other goal I had was to somehow get the Refrigerator in a sterile atmosphere. This makes food last 5x as long, so Pickled Meal or Grubfruit Preserve will last 160 cycles. The only way I found to do this was to place a drop (30g or so) of water on top of the Carpet on the left, which effectively makes a liquid lock. Then I just pumped 5.4kg of Carbon Dioxide into the left side (enough for 1800g in each cell).

Electricity

Refrigeration is also mostly why I used the Solo Spacefarer instead of the standard Spacefarer. With the Carbon Dioxide engine and standard Spacefarer, you only have 3 height to work with to provide electricity, and it’s just not enough to reliably power your Refrigerator, Mini Gas Pump, Oxygen Diffuser and Orbital Data Collections Lab. With the Solo Spacefarer you can have 3 Solar Panel Modules, plus a Battery Module, which can keep this setup supplied with electricity indefinitely.

Other Notes

My dupe started with a Machinery skill of 11, plus 6 from the Operating skill tree, for an effective skill of 17. By the end, they had a base stat of 16 for an effective stat of 22. It took about 60 cycles. If I had loaded more food at the beginning I could have kept going for much longer, although the module was starting to get kind of warm towards the end.

I placed a Storage Bin where the Oxygen Diffuser is and loaded it up with Plastic and then Algae before deconstructing it and building the Diffuser. The rest of the space is basically taken up with the air filtration system, which is pretty straightforward. The Wall Toilet only uses 2.5kg of water per flush, so snaking the plumbing through the module will give you all the water you need, as each section of pipe can hold 10kg, enough for 4 cycles.

The minimum morale needed for the required skills is 10. 6 for the Operating skills, 3 for the Supply skills and 1 for the Rocketry skill. With max decor you’ll have a morale of 12, so you don’t need to worry about doing anything else for morale. Pickled Meal and Muckroot is fine, you can make a schedule with only 1 hour of downtime, etc.

Alternate Build

If I didn’t need the Orbital Data Collections Lab I would probably replace it with a Mess Table, Party Line, Crown Molding and Aero Pot. This would turn the nosecone into a Mess Hall for +3 morale, plus the Party Line would give +1. You can also put a Buddy Bud in the Aero Pot for the Floral Scent, which gives a 5%/cycle stress reduction (as long as your dupe doesn’t have allergies). With all of this you could keep a lot more active skills for wherever you’re going.

  1. Thanks for this! Even with Popped Eardrums because I pumped too much oxygen in at the start, this was the smoothest space trip my dupes have had.
