Red Dead Redemption 2 – Dear Uncle Tacitus Walkthrough

Dear Uncle Tacitus

The following chapter of our Red Dead Redemption 2 guide describes the mission, Dear Uncle Tacitus. Back to America! Arthur goes heads to Shady Belle to find the rest of the gang.

How to get the gold medal in Dear Uncle Tacitus?

  • Leave Shady Belle without being detected by the Pinkertons – You don’t have to fight the lawmen, if you prefer, you can kill only those who stand in your way. Reach the exit unnoticed and ride your horse to Lakay.
  • Complete the mission in less than 8 minutes – If you find the letter quickly, you will have a very large reserve of time and you will be able to make it in time without any problems.

This mission begins automatically after completing Paradise Mercifully Departed. After arriving back in Lemoyne, you have to sneak out of the docks.

Arthur’s goal is to return to Shady Belle in an attempt to find the rest of the gang – your family.

Run up immediately – there should be a horse right in front of a building there. Hop on and ride it to your destination.

It’s a long ride. Start cinematic mode and hold x/a to get going. You don’t have to keep holding the button… you probably shouldn’t, it’s a long ride. Enjoy the music and make some tea.

When you get to the Shady Belle, Arthur will jump off his horse.

Go inside, then turn right when you get in, and pick up the letter on the table. This is the only clue you really need. You’ll learn they’ve probably gone to Lakay, a small village north of Saint Denis.

After reading the letter, the law will show up.

Gold Medal Checklist:

  • Crouch and hide, and equip your knife. Be patient, and you should be able to take out any Pinkertons blocking your way on the way out, as you need to leave Shady Belle without being detected by the Pinkertons.
  • Complete within 8 minutes.

After sneaking out, or killing them, take a horse, go into cinematic mode, and get going on the road. You have another pretty long ride ahead of you to Lakay.
