At October 12th 2023, 16 new achievements were added in the new update, the “Multiclass Update” that is mainly focusing on class items. This guide will help you complete those 16 achievements to 100% the game.
Ring of Pain Multiclass Update Achievement Guide
Welcome to my first guide on Steam!
This guide is divided into 4 sections;
- Class-based runs,
- Restriction-based runs,
- Boss-kill achievements and
- Miscellaneous.
You can do several achievements in one run. For example one restriction-based run can be combined with a class-based run. However, I recommend focusing on one specific achievement at a time as the runs will be difficult enough as is.
All of these achievements can be done at any difficulty. I recommend Normal to make things easier. I also recommend going for the Dark Ending in all of these runs as the Owl is arguably easier and more consistent than the Light Ending.
This guide assumes you’ve completed most of the previous achievements and unlocked a majority of items available in the game. Some items unlocked by previous achievements are mentioned in the guide and I recommend obtaining those achievements before attempting these runs. Examples include but are not limited to:
- Sadistic Will (Unlocked by the Snake Sneak achievement)
- Consumption (Unlocked by the Near Death Experience achievement)
- Transcendence (Unlocked by the Poor Choices achievement)
- Toxins (Unlocked by the Dig Your Own Grave achievement)
It is also essential to have completed at least 5 runs prior to unlock the Selective Stone, the new candle that many of these achievements rely on.

Class-based runs
For all of the class-based achievements I heavily recommend using the new Selective Stone candle. It will remove all other sets from the normal loot pool, making it much easier to find items of a specific set. This does not remove multiclass items or unique items, such as the Bloodstone (Legendary Diviner Gem Item from the Shrine of Neglect path) or Choker (Legendary Brute Neck Item from the Shrine of Sacrifice path) so be careful as those items will still count for their respective classes.
These achievements (except for Matching) only checks what you have equipped at the end of the run, so you may pick up and use multiclass items or other class items during the run itself. Just make sure to replace, use (in case of scrolls) or destroy any incorrect class items before you end the run.
Make sure to always look at the icon in the top left of each item you come across during these runs.
Class-based runs
Matching – Wear items of the same set in the Head, Body, Legs, and Feet slots
You will most likely obtain this while attempting one of the class-specific runs. Make sure to look at the icon in the top left of each item and equip a head, body, leg and feet item of the same class. This achievement will pop-up mid-run and you don’t need to finish the run with these items.
Brute – Complete a run with only Brute items equipped
Brute:
While going for a Brute build, I usually just focus on getting well balanced stats. There are plenty of Common Brute items that have good stats to make early to mid game easier that should be sacrificed to the Wishing Well (Wishful path) if possible.
Once you reach end-game, the run will suddenly get very easy as Brute. There are many legendary and epic items that are among the strongest in the game. Examples include Dual Wield, Flail, Intimidate items and splash damage items. Try to save up souls to get epic and legendary items.
Stalker – Complete a run with only Stalker items equipped
Stalker:
In my opinion the trickiest of the 4 classes due to reliance on certain items. Poison builds work if you have high survivability, but difficult to finish as they become dependent on items like Plague (Epic Spellbook), Toxins (Legendary Off-hand) or Poison Sword (Epic Main-hand). I managed to get the achievement with the help of Toxins, Sadistic Will (Epic Stalker Mask) and Plague for a lot of poison buildup that leaps between enemies. This is also a viable strategy for the Not Touching You – Kill a boss without ever attacking them directly achievement.
Alternatively, Putrid Incense (Rare Main-hand) + Misting Vessel (Common Off-hand) can work to stack poison while sneaking back-and-forth but struggles against aggressive multi-attack creatures and blockers. Just be careful around explosive creatures as you might accidentally kill yourself from applying poison to a low-hp explosive creature. If you’re going for this strategy, keep a low amount of items and restart until you get Misting Vessel in one of the first few chests and then hope to get Putrid Incense from the first 6 floors or from an Ambush path. If you can get a Plague spellbook and/or Sadistic Will Mask at some point throughout the run the Owl will become much easier.
Soul Kin – Complete a run with only Soul Kin items equipped
Soul Kin:
The easiest run is most likely using a low-item build with Hermit’s Tiara (Common Head) and Spiritual (Common Mask), which can trivialize the entire run up until the boss. Ignore Attack stat boosts and focus on survivability (def/hp) and a decent speed stat (15+). Remember that certain enemies and bosses cannot be frozen. For the Owl, simply finding a Soul Cannon (Legendary Spellbook) or perhaps a Soul Hourglass should be enough to win. Remember to have less than 4 items (including the candle, Tiara and win condition item) for this strategy to be viable.
Diviner – Complete a run with only Diviner items equipped
Diviner:
Diviner is very solid throughout the entire run. If you get an early Vitality Robes and/or Chugging Mask, you can become very tanky throughout the run by constantly increasing your max Health. Together with heal on kill/attack items you can almost guarantee a victory from high survivability.
Diviner items often lack offense, so make sure to use Stat Boosts and absorb multiclass items if you need Strength and Speed. Keep an eye out for legendary Diviner items, such as Ascension, Inferno, Crushing Concoction or Screamer that can give you the needed damage to take down Owl at the end of the run.
Multiclass – Complete a run with only Multiclass items equipped
Multiclass:
The last achievement I got. For the multiclass run, you can go with any candle. However the Selection Stone (any class) will reduce the loot pool and multiclass items seem more common when there are less items to choose from. Shops often have multiclass items and several paths (Companions, Separation) can provide unique multiclass items. One of the new Legendary items, Multiclass Gambit, will make your items very strong. There’s not much else to the run except to go for a good spread of stats and work with what you find.
There’s not a lot of Common multiclass items so I would recommend picking up some other class items with good early stats or effects (like Hermit’s Tiara) at the start that you later replace/destroy.
WARNING, unlike the other class-run achievements, I could not get the achievement when finishing the run after having equipped another class item that was destroyed or replaced after the run was finished. This is most likely a bug but it seems that specifically the Multiclass achievement requires you to have never picked up a class-specific item throughout the entire run. I finished two separate runs that did not count to confirm this bug. I had to finish a run without ever picking up a class-specific items to get the achievement.
This run did not count, presumably because I had picked up a Halberd at the very beginning of the run that I replaced with a Rapier:
Brute is the class with the lowest amount of Common items and is the easiest class to start a run with if you have to avoid all non-multiclass items.
Avoid Grabby Hands to not accidentally grab a class item and try to get Catalyst for large stat boosts. Good luck!
Restriction-based runs
Who Needs Luck? – Complete a run with your Stealth, Crit and Dodge chance lower than 10%
You need less than 20 Speed to not reach 10% Dodge and Stealth and less than 15 Clarity to not reach 10% Crit.
I got this achievement while going for a Tiara freeze build (see Soul Kin in class-based runs for more information on Tiara builds). My final items were Selective Stone (Candle), Hermit’s Tiara, Spiritual, and Soul Cannon.
My stats were 24 Health, -4 Strength, 28 Defense, 15 Speed and -2 Clarity. This gave me 0% Crit, 8% Dodge and 8% Stealth. Spiritual is optional but makes clearing speed faster.
All Natural – Complete a run without gaining any stats from Stat Boosts
This one is very straight forward but challenging. I did it by doing a normal Selection Stone Brute run but I picked up multiclass items as well as Brute items. I focused on doing a pure stat-value build and as soon as I got to end game, the Brute legendaries are strong enough to carry the run. It is tempting to try this run at the same time as Scrounger Appreciation (see below) but I recommend keeping them separate as you’ll need the souls and healing the Scroungers drop for this run.
Explosives Expert – Complete a run without taking any explode damage
Avoiding explosive damage in a normal run is possible but it’s probably easiest while going for a freeze build (see Who Needs Luck? above or Soul Kin in class-based runs for a functional Tiara build). Note that avoiding damage through explosive damage reduction, nullification or replacement through items such as Heat Shield or Hungry Sun does not count. I’m not sure if this is a bug or intended but I could not get the achievement if I got hit by an explosion even if it dealt no damage to me.
Scrounger Appreciation – Complete a run without killing a Scrounger
Simple and straightforward. Note that Scroungers spawn in the Owl bossfight and they have nowhere to escape, so any splash damage or similar will most likely kill them.
I personally did this achievement while attempting a normal “Multiclass items only” run. Note that the Scroungers are not allowed to die from explosions or other creatures, for example being consumed by a Wretched Amalgam.
Boss-kill achievements
I recommend doing boss-related achievements on the Owl (Dark Ending path). I can not confirm if they work on the Light Ending path.
Not Touching You – Kill a boss without ever attacking them directly
I managed to get the achievement with the help of Toxins (Legendary Stalker Off-hand), Sadistic Will (Epic Stalker Mask) and Plague (Epic Stalker Spellbook) for a lot of poison buildup that jumps to Owl when something nearby dies from the poison.
I have not confirmed if targeting the boss with a spellbook or scroll counts as a direct attack. If it doesn’t, you could also get this achievement with the use of Soul Cannon (Legendary Spellbook) on any build.
Raw Power – Kill a boss without any items equipped
You can still wear items during the run and boss fight, just not at the very moment you kill a boss.
I recommend doing any normal run but pick up a Trancendence Scroll along the way. You should then use the scroll right before you’re about to do the finishing blow to kill the boss.
Miscellaneous
Nuclear – Kill all creatures in a core path dungeon on the first turn
For this achievement you want to look out for the Soul Spill scroll. Gather a huge amount of souls and use it on the first turn of a normal core path dungeon (one of the numbered ones). If your total soul count is higher than the total health in the dungeon, you’ll kill everything and get the achievement.
Example:
Doing a Soul Kin run can help as that class has access to several items that lets you reveal all cards (Visionary, Neuron Sight, Sight Sphere) and has many cards with high Clarity for easier soul gain. If all cards are revealed, you can simply count the Health of all visible creatures and see if you are able to kill them all with your current soul count.
Remember to only attempt this on floors without creatures that split, such as Viscid Twins.
What Doesn’t Kill You – Survive a total of 60+ damage in a single Nest or Swamp dungeon
This achievement was somewhat confusing to me but by “Nest” or “Swamp” it means the background of the current dungeon, not a specific path. Essentially what it means is that you cannot go to a Shrine of Sacrifice and deal 60+ damage to yourself to get the achievement, it has to be in an actual dungeon. Look at the background and make sure you see a nest/straw background or green swampy background.
Floors 1-6 are considered Nest and floors 7-10 are considered Swamp. I cannot confirm if any paths outside of the core paths work for the achievement.
I recommend doing a Diviner build with a lot of survivability. Chugging Mask, Vitality Robes or Consumption (Rare Diviner Mask) can be used to get the large amounts of max Health that you will need for this achievement.
Otherwise stack a lot of Health and items that give you more potions or healing. The Heal scroll will effectively double the amount of damage you can take in one dungeon, if you can find it. As we want to take damage, Health is more important than Defense for builds targeting this specific achievement. Clarity is also helpful to heal more from potions. Avoid picking up items that may accidentally kill creatures, such as Crushing Concoction and items with Reflect.
The build I ended up with (floor 5, got Consumption early):
Once you have enough health or healing to survive 60+ damage, simply pass back and forth in front of a creature until it has hit you enough and the achievement will pop-up.
Dominant Twin – Kill a creature with exactly the same stats as you
You need exactly the same stats as another creature while killing them with a direct attack (no scrolls or spellbook kills count). As creatures do not have the Clarity stat, you may have any amount of Clarity. Piercing damage is included in the calculation for total Attack.
For this achievement I recommend trying to mimic the Spineback, which appear mostly on floor 5-7, as they spawn with the same base health as you (12).
Spineback has the following stats
- 12 Health
- 9 Attack (7 normal + 2 piercing)
- 6 Defense
- 6 Speed
My build ended up as:
Tigerstone + Halberd + Wading Rags + 3 stat increases for Defense + 1 stat increase for Attack.
I used the Selective Stone to easier find these Common Brute items. If you find a Helmet, you only need 1 stat increase for Attack and none for Defense.
You can use any scrolls you find to help you, as long as it doesn’t affect your stats or directly kill the creature. I used a Stone scroll for a little extra damage at the start. Try to be at full health before you start fighting the Spineback and only attack it when it’s out of its spiky form.
Expensive Look – Spend more than 200 Souls rerolling a chest and then discard it
Very simple. Just obtain a high amount of Souls (preferably 300+ to make sure) and use them all to re-roll as much as possible on any loot you find and then discard it. This will make the run more difficult as you use up a lot of souls and waste loot so do not do this while trying to finish a challenging run.
You might get this achievement naturally from attempting the Multiclass Achievement as you’ll be rerolling chests a lot.
