Roboquest Recon Primary Perks Rating +Builds

Rating all primary perks for Recon. Secondary perks are considered when valuing a primary perk, as well as synergy with other perks.

Ratings all considered for Heroes +3 difficulty.

Remember this is just my OPINION, and our experiences might be vastly different.

Tier List

Recon Primary Perks Rating + Builds

S Tier

Laser Cutlass:
Transforms Laser Dagger into Laser Cutlass. Increases its attack speed by 25% and damage by 50% but decreases Overslash bonus damage to 75%.
Recon Primary Perks Rating + Builds

  • Swashbuckler:
Hitting an enemy with Overslash increases armor by 20% for 3s.
  • Windmill Slash:
Hitting an enemy with Overslash increases Laser Dagger attack speed by 50% for 3s.

The enabler of Recon’s extremely powerful melee build. Provides some of the best perks and has some of the strongest synergies that make melee Recon an absolute monster.

Elemental Blink:
Choose an element. Using Blink triggers an explosion dealing damage of that element.
Recon Primary Perks Rating + Builds

  • Elemental Catalyst:
Triggering Pyro Blink increases elemental damage by 25% for 6s.
  • Elemental Infusion:
Laser Dagger deals elemental damage and 200% increased damage against enemies with elemental resistance.

Laser Cutlass’s right-hand man. Taking Shock blink and infusion gives you great AoE stuns to start safely slashing away, while the shock infused cutlass lets you essentially stunlock bosses, making it much easier and safer than the alternatives when running melee. Even on non-melee runs, the elemental blink makes clearing rooms much easier with either a stun or fire explosion.

A Tier

Sharp Wave:
Overslash fires a piercing arc over 9m and repairs your scratch damage for 10% of your maximum health.
Recon Primary Perks Rating + Builds

  • Signature Move:
    Overslash is always critical.
  • Happy Slice:
Hitting an enemy with Overslash reduces Blink cooldown by 2s.

Incredibly strong room clearing tool, letting you sweep rows of enemies or take out larger enemies. Happy Slice also allows you to easily reset blinks, synergizing with other perks like Initiative, Elemental Blink, or even just getting you more overslash charges to Sharp Wave again. Keep in mind that overslash loses its damage value when taking Laser Cutlass, so I’d advise skipping this one if going melee.

Robofuel:
Gathering healing-cells generates 1 Robofuel charge for 1.5s (max. 15). Increases firerate and Laser Dagger attack speed by 2% and auto-critical chance by 1% for each charge.
Recon Primary Perks Rating + Builds

  • Full Power:
Increases Robofuel duration by 0.5s and maximum charge by 5.
  • Battle Suit:
Increases armor by 1% for each Robofuel charge.

Laser Cutlass’s left-hand man. Provides must-have bonuses for the melee build, while also a great room-clear boost for non-melee build. It can be very hard to get the bonuses during boss fights for a non-melee build however.

Initiative:
Using Blink generates one Initiative charge (max. 3). Each charge increases damage by 10% for 9s. While Initiative is active, takedowns reduces Blink cooldown by 0.5s.
Recon Primary Perks Rating + Builds

  • Lucky Stance:
Increases auto-critical chance by 10% for each Initiative charge.
  • Loading Trick:
Using Blink reloads your weapon and grants infinite ammo for 1.5s.

Solid damage increase for any build while also increasing blink up-time. Can’t go wrong with this one, especially on non-melee builds.

Dancing Blade:
Hitting an enemy with overslash increases damage by 35% for 9s.
Recon Primary Perks Rating + Builds

  • Opportunity:
While Dancing Blade is active, increases Laser Dagger auto-critical chance by 50%.
  • Speed Freak:
While Dancing Blade is active, increases movement speed by 10% and armor by 15%.

Another set of great bonuses, especially with the melee build. Is also extremely effective on non-melee builds when paired with Sharp Wave.

B Tier

Simple Geometry:
Critical hits ricochet on 1 enemy within 8m, dealing 40% damage. Critical hits against marked enemies trigger 1 more ricochets.
Recon Primary Perks Rating + Builds

  • Big Angle:
Increases Simple Geometry ricochet range by 2m.
  • Greeting Shot:
Increases your first hit critical damage against an enemy by 20%.

Great room clear boost when doing crit-centric builds, of which Recon has multiple. Its just good.

Top Critical:
Increases critical damage by 10%. The first 35% ammo increases weapon auto-critical chance by 25%
Recon Primary Perks Rating + Builds

  • Top 50:
Top Critical now triggers on first 50% ammo in the clip or energy gauge.
  • Jackpot:
Critical hits have 15% chance to deal 50% increased damage.

Core perk when running auto-crit builds. Synergizes well with other perks like Lock n Load or Initiative.

Tactical Healing:
Taking damage reduces Blink cooldown by 2s. Using Blink repairs your scratch damage for 25% of your maximum health.
Recon Primary Perks Rating + Builds

  • Kevlar Pad:
Using Blink increases armor by 15% for 6s.
  • Elemental Backlash:
Choose an element. Deals damage of that element to enemies dealing damage to you.

A great survivability perk that doubles as an extra means of refreshing blink cooldowns. Elemental Backlash is a bit underwhelming, but overall Tactical Healing is a decent pickup if you want some extra bulk.

Combat Decoy:
Using Blink deploys a decoy that shoots enemies, dealing 7 damage every 0.2s for 6s.
Recon Primary Perks Rating + Builds

  • Elemental Mirage:
Choose an element. Your decoy deals damage of that element.
  • Mocking Mirage:
Increases decoy duration by 1.5s and it draws enemies’ attention more efficiently.

Another survivability perk similar to Tactical Healing, taking the heat off you during combat. Just like tactical healing, its a good choice if you need some more survivability but keep in mind that distracted enemies probably won’t be showing their weakpoints.

Discipline:
Using Blink or not shooting for 1.25s generates 1 Discipline charge (max. 1). Your next weapon shot consumes a charge to deal 70% increased damage.
Recon Primary Perks Rating + Builds

  • Cheap Shot:
Discipline shot critical damage is increased by 25%.
  • Inner Strength:
Increases the maximum amount of Discipline charge by 1. Using Blink generates all charges.

A tad hard to use on most builds, but is core on the sniper build and can do decent work when doing a blink-centric build and paired with a high burst weapon like the Triple Shotgun.

Scanning Protocol:
Taking down a marked enemy spreads the mark to another enemy within 7m. Every 8s, your next weapon shot marks.
Recon Primary Perks Rating + Builds

  • Improved Mark:
Increases damage by 20% against marked enemies.
  • Prime Target:
Increases Laser Dagger damage by 50% against marked enemies.

Great bonuses but tricky to use, since this is Recon’s only innate way to mark enemies. Making sure the mark bounces around can be hard to guarantee, and with a steep 8s cooldown, the perk can be unreliable, but when it works it is potent, especially against bosses.

C Tier

Favorite Weapon:
Increases weapons and Laser Dagger damage by 30% and reload speed by 20% but reduces your weapon slots by 1.
Recon Primary Perks Rating + Builds

  • Ninja Reload:
Hitting an enemy with Overslash reloads your weapon and grants infinite ammo for 1.5s.
  • Quick Load:
Increases weapons reload speed by 40% when out of ammo.
See also:  Roboquest Guardian Perk Ratings +Builds

Great with Lock n Load, mediocre with everything else.

Lock N’ Load:
Increases reload speed by 20%. Reloading a weapon increases firerate by 40% for 4s.
Recon Primary Perks Rating + Builds

  • Gun Diet:
Increases firerate by 25% while below 50% ammo in clip or above 50% energy gauge.
  • Infinite Mag:
Triggering Lock N’ Load grants infinite ammo for 1.5s.

Can enable some really good DPS with Favorite Weapon and Top Critical, but without Favorite Weapon, having to reload constantly for your buffs feels bad, especially when Recon has so many auto-reload effects.

D tier

Shutdown:
Instantly executes enemies with less than 10% health remaining and bosses with less than 5% health remaining.
Recon Primary Perks Rating + Builds

  • Blue Screen:
Your first hit against a common enemy has a 10% chance to instantly execute it.
  • Circuit Breaker:
Increases Shutdown execution threshold with Laser Dagger by 15% on enemies and by 3% on bosses.

A laughable theoretic 10% damage increase against enemies and even less against bosses. Blue Screen only proc’ing once per enemy makes it highly unreliable in clearing rooms.

Build Suggestions

Hack n Slash

Recon Primary Perks Rating + BuildsRecon Primary Perks Rating + BuildsRecon Primary Perks Rating + Builds
Decimate rooms of enemies with your Laser Cutlass. Pick up Shock Blink and Infusion to stun mobs and bosses alike and cut them down with ease.

Run n Gun

Recon Primary Perks Rating + BuildsRecon Primary Perks Rating + BuildsRecon Primary Perks Rating + Builds
Use Lucky Stance from Initiative and Top Critical to get your auto-crit up, while using Loading Trick to keep Top Critical up and Simple Geometry to capitalize off all those extra crits. Always benefits from more auto-crit perks.

Dash Slash

Recon Primary Perks Rating + BuildsRecon Primary Perks Rating + BuildsRecon Primary Perks Rating + Builds
Constantly reset your Blink cooldown to unleash Elemental Explosions and Sharp Waves. Discipline helps for getting those extra takedowns to fill up that Overslash meter. Pretty much every other blink perk is also effective here.

Mag Dumper

Recon Primary Perks Rating + BuildsRecon Primary Perks Rating + BuildsRecon Primary Perks Rating + Builds
Use the fire rate bonuses from Lock n Load and the Reload bonuses from Favorite weapon to blitz through your magazine while keeping your Top Critical uptime high. Robofuel and Initiative are welcome additions.

The Sniper

Recon Primary Perks Rating + BuildsRecon Primary Perks Rating + BuildsRecon Primary Perks Rating + Builds
Grab an Elite Sniper or Scout Sniper, aim for the head, and let the ricochets handle the rest. Scanning Protocol helps boost your single target and ricochets, but be mindful of wasting it.
