Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical Challenging a Queen Endings Guide

Someone beat me to it, but this guide includes descriptions of the 14 endings (that I found, at least) and how to get them.

Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical Challenging a Queen Endings Guide

Intro and notes

Well this started as wanting to see all the endings for myself, and as much content as possible along the way. I figured as long as I was keeping track I may as well make it into a proper guide. I can’t guarantee 100% that this is comprehensive, but it was everything that I found.

One important note: As far as I could tell, the choice you make in option #2 doesn’t matter for the overall endings. Testing every single combination of all five options would have brought the count from a mostly manageable 99 to a total of 288 which, frankly, I didn’t want to do. So for ease and sanity, I’ve only used combinations where the first two choices are the same color. What seemed to happen as I went through was that each combination of choices #1-4 led to one specific set of endings based on choice #5.

While there are only three options at any given time, there are actually FOUR sets of endings for most of the routes. This is because a Grace who chooses Charming as her primary trait at the start of the game gets the “Let Persephone Win” prompt in choice #5, while Kickass and Clever Graces get a different green prompt. There are two different Let Persephone Win endings that are marked below.

There are also A LOT of small lyrical variations throughout this piece that I wasn’t able to track completely. For example, Grace’s last rapping section just before Ending #1 has different lyrics if you’re coming into it from Persephone’s “Don’t use that word” verse or from a different place. Persephone also has different counterpoints to Grace’s “Stay in the dark and fight your endless war” verse depending on…something in the first three choices? Yeah, there’s a reason this one is the most complicated. I’m sure someone can add on to a complete 100% guide but for now it’s endings only.

Numbers were chosen as I went, the order doesn’t necessarily mean anything.

Endings and Explanations

Ending #1 – Red Route (“I’ve Stolen the Show Now”). This is the pure red ending, and is reachable from any starting point if you choose red the last two times.

Ending #2 – Blue Route (“Who I Am”). This is the pure blue ending, and reachable from other beginnings. I’m unable to quite find the pattern on my own.

Ending #3 – Green (Charming) Route (“Bowing Down to You, My Queen”). This ending is only reachable if you chose Charming as your primary trait at the beginning of the game. To reach this ending, you can start from any color and choose green as your last two choices. There are a few other paths that get you here.

Ending #4 – “You Had a Good Run”. Start with green, then choose red for choice #4 and blue for choice #5.

Ending #5 – “Show’s Over”. I can’t be sure how you get here, but the patterns are below. This is a non-charming Green ending.

Ending #6 – “It’s the Same Schtick Every Year”. Choose green to start, then choose blue for choice #4 and red for choice #5

Ending #7 – “We Get Younger Every Year”. A lyrical variation of the above. Green to start, then green for choice #4 and red for choice #5

Ending #8 – “Sing Like This for Hours”. This is another Charming!Grace exclusive ending. You can reach this from any start by choosing blue for choice #4 and “Let Persephone Win” for choice #5.

Ending #9 – “You’ve Been Down Here Too Long”. Green start, either red or blue choice #3, blue choice #4, and green choice #5. This “whalefall” setpiece is my favorite and you can only see it on mixed routes.

GGRBG; GGBBG

Ending #10 – “You Shouldn’t Have Come.” Another Whalefall ending. Blue start, either blue or red #3, blue #4, green #5.

BBBBG; BBRBG

Ending #11 – “You Lost Them, You Know.” Red start, red #4, blue #5.

Ending #12 – “Drowning in Winter”. Red start, red or blue #3, blue #4, green #5

RRBBG; RRRBG

Ending #13 – “Caught a Butterfly”. Some variation of a blue start with a red ending; don’t ask me why only some of them count.

BBGGR; BBBGR; BBGBR; BBRBR; BBRGR

Ending #14 – “Looks Like It’s Mine”. Blue start, red #4, blue #5.

Excel Spreadsheet

I swapped the order of #13 and #11 when I made the guide, but enjoy the color-coded Excel spreadsheet that made this possible.
