1. Passage to Anywhere Walkthrough

This quest begins automatically after you finish Stranger in a Strange Land. Picking up the Holographic Shroud in the captain’s quarters in your Ship, the Unreliable, will net you 18600 XP. If you read the logs in the computer there next to it you’ll gain the quest Weapon From The Void.

Travel to the Groundbreaker and approach the Customs officer, CPL. Leonard Wheeler. He will inform you that your ship is impounded and say you will have to take it up with Udom Bedford. Leonard can also give you the quest Solution Vial, and some information regarding the Groundbreaker’s status on the system and its relationship with The Board. He will also give you directions on where to go to obtain further quests within the ship.

This area has several quests that can be completed so look out for companion quests “The Empty Man” and “Drinking Sapphire Whine” while you progress. There are also side quests and bounties to get from NPCs so talk to everyone you find.

Go to the main area of the ship and take a left, you’ll come to the Rest-n-Go and can meet with Gladys. Ask her for a Navkey to go to Stellar Bay (16800xp) and she will say she has only one key and it will be expensive. You can pay 10,000 bits, or ask about the “opportunity” she offers. She will ask you to look into a distress call that came in from an outpost called Roseway, which Auntie Cleo abandoned years ago. She thinks there might be a secret worth selling. Accept and you’ll obtained the quest The Distress Signal. You can ask her about other work and affairs and she will then give you Purpleberry Bunch before you leave.

Go toward the Groundbreaker Promenade and you can talk to Udom Bedford. Pretend that Alex liked him if you would like to keep it nice, and he’ll lift your impounding. You get 16000 xp for your efforts. He then asks you if you know where Phineas Welles is, as Alex was apparently going to turn him in. Say he never mentioned Welles and the conversation will move on. This is also your opportunity to talk about Jessie Doyle for Worst Contact – so make use of it.

Complete The Distress Signal investigation and bring back all the research, or purchase the Stellar Bay Navkey for 10,000 bits. You will gain Groundbreaker Reputation and the quest will update asking to talk to Phillas Welles. Before you do this, you might want to head to Lilya Hagen at SubLight Salvage to begin the quest Salvager in the Sky.

You should then go to the Unreliable and have ADA contact Welles. He will tell you why Monarch is the next destination. You will get 33,000xp and the next quest: Radio Free Monarch

Alternatively, if you head straight to Monarch and land at Cascadia, you can fight your way to Stellar Bay to complete this Quest, saving you the cost of the Nav key. Be warned though, there are many dangerous enemies from 12-18 level.

2. Worst Contact Walkthrough

You will find Ellie at the Medical Bay of the Groundbreaker, on the 5th floor’s second main door to the left of the entrance courtyard. This is also the location you access for the Solution Vital quest.

Ellie will ask you to check in on Jessie inside the quarantine area. If you have the Holographic Shroud and a cartridge for it, you can just go in and you’ll automatically disguise. Walk to the end of the hall and talk to the intercomm to meet Jessie Doyle. If you don’t have the shroud, there’s a secret entrance to the medical area behind Gladys’ compartment – you’ll have to crouch around a squatter’s spot.

Ellie’s story sounds far-fetched, and you can intimidate (20) to get her to open the door. She is not sick, she just owes a lot of money to the board. She’s thief by profession, and the Blood Tear diamond (last seen aboard the Hope) has surfaced. She wanted to steal it and got Udom Bedford to finance 50% of the heist. Things did not go smoothly, however, and she’s now deeply in debt to him. She asks that you talk to Udom. Accept to do this for 9600xp.

You can talk to Udom Bedford at his office near the Groundbreaker Promenade. He will say Ms. Doyle owes The Board a significant sum, and that the only collateral available are her organs so “compulsory donation” is legal in this case. You can offer to pay the fine or pass a Persuade (20) check to convince him to instead indenture her. 9600xp, The Board Reputation is gained by persuading. Paying the fine gives you the option to bribe for a varying amount of bits depending on your Reputation, or argue about the line item “emotional anguish”. You will also obtain 9600xp and The Board reputation.

Return to the Med Bay and Jessie and Ellie will be talking. Jessiewill give you 1000 Bit Cartridge to mitigate the cost of the debt paid. Talk to Ellie and you’ll gain 19,2000 and 9600 xp, and Groundbreaker reputation. Ellie will also offer to join your party. Accept and she will be found at the Unreliable if your party is already full.

3. Balance Due Walkthrough

This Quest is obtained by telling Udom Bedford that you know the location of Phineas Welles, and offering to help return his Board Seal from Gladys. You’ll need to buy or steal the Official Seal of Halcyon from Gladys safe on the Groundbreaker. If you can pick the safe lock in 1 second (around 55 lock pick skill), you can consistently steal it without reputation loss. Attempting to stealing it with less skill may require you to Intimidate or Lie to the guards and gain a slight amount of negative Reputation with Groundbreaker instead of spending 8000+ Bit Cartridges.

Return the Seal to Udom to complete this quest and receive 70,000 XP, The Board Reputation up, Byzantium Travel Authorization Papers, Byzantium Navkey and to begin the quest The Puppet Masters.
