The Witcher’s Forge Quest Walkthrough – The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt (Kaer Morhen Side Quest)

Start Location: In the main hall of the Kaer Morhen fortress, find the kitchen/feasting area and go through the door to the east to an octagon shaped room. Look for a pair of chests and loot the document ‘Monstrum, or a Portrayal of Witchers: Volume 2′ on top. This will start the quest.

Note: You’ll be unable to complete this quest unless you possess the Eye of Nehaleni given to you by Keira Metz during ‘Wandering in the Dark’.

To actually start the quest, you’ll need to head into your inventory, more specifically the Quest items tab and read the Monstrum, or a Portrayal of Witchers: Volume 2. This will update our objectives.

If you look at your map, you’ll be given a new objective marker located to the southwest of the Kaer Morhen fortress. Make your way over here to discover the entrance to an Iron Mine (you’ll also unlock a fast travel marker nearby).

Make your way through a cave until you reach a relatively large room. After a few moments here you’ll be attacked by a Level 30 Earth Elemental . Treat him in the same way you would treat any of the other Elementals that you have fought previously (YRDEN is super effective at slowing him down!) – simply avoid his ranged and close quarters attacks whilst getting a hit or two in when you see the opportune moment.

After the fight, examine the small altar nearby with the carved stone book. This will open a door to the left. Enter and after looting your fill, approach the forge at the back of the room. Activate Witcher Sense and inspect the bellows here for a conversation

Boss: Ifrit (Fire Elemental)

The Fire Elemental can activate a fiery aura that will cause fire damage to Geralt if he stays too close for too long. In addition, the Elemental can dish out some nasty close range melee attacks and will regularly punch the ground causing an area of effect shockwave if you stay too close. He also has ranged capabilities with and will also shoot out a wave of fire in a line directly in front of him as well as tossing fireballs that can explode on impact causing a little splash damage if you are too close to them.

The fight is tough for one reason, the awkward environment makes it difficult to approach the boss without him being able to attack first.

Whilst he sounds tough, he is actually not all that tricky to take down. Using AARD will temporarily remove his fiery aura; disabling his fire-based AOE smash and allowing you to pretty much treat him as a regular large enemy. YRDEN is also helpful in that it will slow him down to make him more manageable. Once he is in the weakened state, we’ll need to wait for an opening in its attacks. Fortunately most of its attacks are quite obviously telegraphed and there is a small window after any attack he does.

Following the fight, you can approach the wall behind the bellows and use your Eye of Nehaleni to remove the illusion here. Enter the secret compartment to find three chests we can loot for a unique sword Tir Tochair Blade and a piece of armour Eternal Fire Executioner’s Armour.

Entering the hidden area here will complete the quest.

Note: For completing the quest you’ll earn 25XP.
