Witcher 3 Contract Mysterious Tracks
This quest can be acquired via a notice posted on the Lindenvale Notice board.
After grabbing the notice from the board in Lindenvale, you’ll need find and speak with the Hunter who posted the notice. He’s found on a bench behind a house in the southern part of the town. He’ll flesh out some additional details regarding the contract and update your objectives.
Following the conversation, we’ll need to head out of town along the road to the south to reach the point of interest in the nearby forest. When you arrive at the objective marker, we’ll need to explore the investigation area. Activate Geralt’s Witcher Senses and explore the area. You can inspect the following points of interest:
- Pack of dead Wolves in the centre of the area.
- Footprints near the dead Wolves leading out of the search area.
After examining the initial footprints, you’ll notice that there is a trail of said footprints leading away from the area. Activate your Witcher Sense and follow this trail a short distance until the tracks stop. At this point, examine the scratch marks on the nearby tree.
After examining the scratch marks, a scent trail will appear whilst in Witcher Sense. Follow this through the forest until you come across a glowing red rock on the ground. We’re almost there! To the right of the rock, you’ll see the scent trail leading up into a cave in the cliff face. Climb the dirt ramp to the left and jump to the ledge in front of the cave.
Enter the cave and bang on Geralt’s Witcher Senses to explore the area. You can inspect the following points of interest:
- Footprints scattered all over the cave.
- Blood stains on the floorby the entrance.
- A dead Fiend on the left hand side of the cave.
- Tuft of fur in the Fiend’s mouth.
After examining all four points of interest, Geralt will mutter to himself about luring the enemy to this position.
Note: At this point, Geralt will learn Manuscript Page: Chort Lure.
Before continuing, you loot the chest in the corner of the room opposite the Fiend’s corpse. When you are ready to continue, head into the Alchemy menu to craft the Chort Lure (you’ll need 2 Crow’s Eyes and Fiend Dung).
Exit the cave and you’ll notice that there are now four new objective markers on the map. Make your way over to each marker around the base of the hill and use the Chort Lure in the area of interest.
After placing the Chort Lure at each of the four locations, return to the cave. Approach the objective marker to start a boss fight.
Boss: Howler (Chort)
The Chort is quite similar to the Fiend we fought earlier. This time around it’s a little trickier as we’ll need to fight the enemy in the confines of the cave which means limited space for dodging/rolling and evading attacks.
The Chort itself has some fairly powerful melee and lunging attacks in addition to a nasty head-butt/gore manoeuvre. All of its attacks cover quite a large range and as such we’ll need to dodge/roll away from them as much as possible. Make sure you use a lot of lateral movement during this fight to roll and circle the boss rather than retreating as otherwise you’ll get cornered.
Other than keeping an eye on your environment and movement capabilities, the fight boils down to standard operating procedure for the larger beasties we’ve fought to date – get a hit or two in, dodge, repeat. Keep it up until the Chort falls.
Once the Chort is dead, loot the body for the Chort Trophy, Chort Hide, Chort Mutagen and any other goodies it was carrying.
Now that the contract has been dealt with, we can return to Lindenvale and speak with the hunter once again and report on what has happened to end the side-quest.
Note: At this point, you’ll earn 300XP and 193 Crowns.
