Witcher 3 Contract Patrol Gone Missing

This quest can be acquired via a notice posted on the Nilfgaardian Army Group ‘Centre’ Camp Notice board.

After grabbing the missing soldiers notice from the Nilfgaardian Army Group ‘Centre’ Camp area notice board, enter the large tent immediately behind the notice board to find Quartermaster Eggebracht sitting behind a desk. Approach and start up a conversation with him. He’ll fill you in on the additional details you need to get started.

Exit the Nilfgaardian Army Group ‘Centre’ Camp and head to the swampy area marked on the map to the west. When you arrive at the abandoned camp site marked by the objective marker, said objective marker will expand into a search area. Activate your Witcher Senses. Here you can inspect:

  • The camp fire by the tent.
  • The series of footprints leading into the woods.

After examining the initial footprints, you’ll notice that there is a trail of said footprints leading away from the area. Activate your Witcher Sense and follow this trail a short distance until Geralt picks up a scent trail crossing the path. Follow this to the end if you like to examine some Draconid Musk. Return to the tracks and follow them until you come across a corpse in the road. Inspect it and Geralt will puzzle out what it is you are hunting.

Follow the footprints a little bit further until you come across the boss.

Boss: Wyvern

The Wyvern fight is similar to those with flying enemies (such as the Griffin) we’ve encountered earlier in the game. Fortunately, it acts in much the same way as the aforementioned monsters and as such the tactics remain essentially the same.

Whilst it does have wings, for the most part it will attack from the ground and has quite a large area of attack due to its wings being able to perform sweeping moves. In addition to its close range wing attacks, it can also jump in the air and leap attack at your position as well as utilising a nasty lunge attack, which you can roll under if timed correctly. Similar to the Basilisk it is able to spit green projectiles at you which will poison Geralt if it makes contact. When it is in the air, it will try a swooping attack that can be easily rolled under/away from but will hit like a tonne of bricks if not avoided.

The easiest way to take it down quickly is to use a combination of AXII to stun it, IGNI and AARD to dish out damage or YRDEN to slow its movements to get a few attacks in. Whilst in the air, hit it with crossbow bolts or AARD to bring it crashing to the ground – run up and smash it a few times and then use your dodges and rolls to avoid its ground-based attacks whilst dishing out your own attacks when you see an opening. Repeat this process until it hits the dust.

Once the Wyvern is dead, loot the body for the Wyvern Trophy, Wyvern Hide, Dragon Scales, Wyvern Mutagen and any other goodies it was carrying.

Now that the contract has been dealt with, we can return to the Nilfgaardian Army Group ‘Centre’ Camp area and speak with the Quartermaster once again and report on what has happened to end the side-quest.

Note: At this point, you’ll earn 200XP and 50 Crowns.
