Witcher 3 Contract The Merry Widow
This quest can be acquired via a notice posted on the Lindenvale Notice board.
After grabbing the notice from the board in Lindenvale, you’ll need to track down and speak to the nearby gravedigger who you can speak to further regarding the contract.
Following the conversation, we’ll need to head out of town and up the nearby hill to reach the cemetery. As you arrive, you’ll see it has been run over by Ghouls, 4-5 Ghouls in fact. Take them all out to update your objectives.
Flick on your Witcher Senses and explore the area. You can inspect the following points of interest:
- Any of the five or so disturbed graves with bones exposed.
- A large grave behind the small building and to the right.
After examining the large grave, a scent trail will appear whilst in Witcher Sense. Follow this over the wall, down the hill and across the ruined bridge to the far side. Keep moving along the dirt path after the scent trail until you find a rundown hut.
Head inside to find yourself in an investigation area on the mini-map. Activate Witcher Sense and you can inspect the following:
- Pile of skulls in the far right corner from the entrance.
- The cauldron by the wall to the right of the entry.
- The large basin on the floor opposite the doorway.
After examining all three points of interest, our objectives will update. Head back to the corner and pick up the pile of skulls.
Return to the graveyard. Meditate to prepare and then place the skulls on the altar inside the small building. This will summon the monster that has been bothering the locals.
Boss: Mourntart (Grave Hag)
Mourntart is a powerful Grave Hag who focuses on melee attacks and is very, very fast at unleashing them. She’ll favour her claws in short range melee attacks which she can link into a short combo, but will also use her tongue for slightly longer range on her attacks. In addition to boosting range, the tongue can also poison Geralt if it hits him, so avoid it at all costs!
The key to defeating the Mourntart is to slow it down. YRDEN is a godsend in this battle as it will make the monster’s attacks easier to dodge as well as slowing it down enough to get some attacks in crosswise. Using your IGNI can do a bit of ranged damage and you can also use QUEN to tank it briefly and attack it head on.
All in all its not too difficult a fight compared to the majority of contracts, providing you avoid the poison and being hit by combos!
Once she is dead, loot the body for the Grave Hag Trophy, Grave Hag Mutagen and any other goodies it was carrying.
Now we can walk back to Lindenvale and speak with the gravedigger for a reward and to end the side-quest.
Note: At this point, you’ll earn 300XP and 180 Crowns.
