Witcher 3 Contract The Oxenfurt Drunk Walkthrough

Contract The Oxenfurt Drunk Walkthrough

This quest can be acquired via a notice posted on the Oxenfurt Notice board.

After nabbing the notice from the board in Oxenfurt, make your way to the Oxenfurt Docks nearby. When you arrive, speak to the Redanian Officer Nikolas Friedman, and he’ll outline the contract in more detail. After exhausting all of his possible conversation options, your objectives will be updated.

Once you are through with him, have a peek at your map and you’ll notice that there are two objective markers to investigate – one along the docks near the ‘Western Gate’ fast travel point and another in the middle of Oxenfurt. Let’s head into town first as that’s the closest to our current position.

You’ll find a woman we can speak to in ‘The Alchemy’, one of the taverns near the marketplace in central Oxenfurt who witnessed the monster. During the conversation you have with her, you’ll need to either bribe her with 30 Crowns (you’ll also earn 5XP) or use AXII (you’ll also earn 40XP) to convince her to tell her story.

Following the conversation, head outside the tavern and work your way around to the new search area that has appeared nearby. Look for a large stone archway in front of a house. Just inside this tone archway on the ground by one of the tees you’ll find a Bracelet we can examine with Witcher Sense active.

With that out of the way, it’s time to track down the other lead – the Medic.

The Medic can be found by the water’s edge outside of a house beneath the bridge near the ‘Western Gate’ fast travel point. After a shot conversation, the medic will hand you a key which we’ll be able to use to open the door to the morgue behind him.

Inside the morgue there are a pair of bodies. Activate Geralt’s Witcher Senses and examine both of them to have your objectives updated.

Note: At this point, you’ll earn 25XP.

With all of that information gathered, it’s time to confront the beasty. Return to the ‘The Alchemy’ tavern where we spoke to the witness earlier. Speak to the bartender tell him “I need a drink” and then give him 50 Crowns when he asks to continue.

Note: At this point, you’ll earn 5XP.

When you regain control of Geralt, he’ll be quite drunk and outside of the tavern. Wander around in the search area whilst Geralt sings to lure out the monster. It won’t work immediately and you’ll need to move to a different objective area a couple of times before you provoke the monster into attacking.

Boss: Gael (Katakan) – Part 1

Gael is an Katakan and as such, shares most of its moves with the Werewolves and Ekimmaras creatures you will have no doubt have encountered by now. These include the damaging leaping attack, as well as several close-medium range melee attacks and a lunge with his mouth. The Katakan, like the Ekimmaras is different from the Werewolves in that it can become invisible, effectively disappearing and re-appearing to attack when you are not expecting it.

This fight can be quite difficult, because Geralt is drunk so the screen is acting a little funny and the camera is a little less responsive as a result. To make things even trickier, in addition to the ability for the boss to turn invisible, it is also extremely fast and can link together multiple melee attacks to string out a large amount of damage in a short period of time. With Geralt’s condition during the initial section of the fight it can be difficult to dodge these attacks effectively.

After damaging it once or twice, the Katakan will run off.

At this stage, Geralt will lose the drunkenness effect and you’ll be able to hunt him down more effectively. Throw on your Witcher Sense and locate the red ripple in the environment – follow this through Oxenfurt until it leads you to a house by the docks at the northern end of the city.

Unsurprisingly the door is locked. As such, climb the ladder around the side of the house to reach an opening and an attic-type area. Loot the chest here for some goodies (Diagram: Black Unicorn, Enhanced Racing Saddle and Manuscript Page: Superior Elementa Oil for me).

Prepare yourself for a fight before dropping down into the room below to fight the boss fo reelz!

Boss: Gael (Katakan) – Part 2

Remember that Gael is extremely fast and can link together multiple melee attacks to string out a large amount of damage in a short period of time. The smaller, confined area of this room makes it difficult to avoid his attacks, but also presents an opportunity.

To defeat Gael, use your usual Vampire strategy – you’ll need to look out for its outline in the environs and try to plant and lead the boss through YRDEN traps to force it out of its invisible state and slow down his movement slightly so that you can melee attack him. The boss is also weak against IGNI, so be sure to utilise this when you see an opening.

It is best not to get greedy and stay too close for too long as this boss can do a lot of damage. Roll away from his lunge and dodge his melee abilities whilst quickly following up with attacks of your own (or an IGNI blast) before backing off and repeating. Keep dodging and chipping away at his health bar until it falls.

Once the Katakan boss is dead loot its body for the Katakan Trophy and Katakan Mutagen along with any other items of interest it is carrying around.

With the Katakan Trophy in your possession, return to the Redanian Officer at the Oxenfurt Docks to hand in the side-quest.

Note: At this point, you’ll earn 300XP and 204 Crowns.
