Witcher 3 Gwent Big City Players Walkthrough

Gwent Big City Players Walkthrough

This quest can be acquired via a notice posted on the Crow’s Perch Notice board.

Note: It is a good idea to do this quest as soon as possible (I did it just before completing ‘Ugly Baby’ main quest). This is because depending on choices and progression, some of the characters may no longer be around to play if we take too long.

As with the other Gwent side-quests ‘Gwent: Big City Players’ require you to track down and play Gwent against a series of four increasingly difficult opponents. As you approach each of the challengers, you need to speak with them to start a match.

You can find the Gwent players associated with this side-quest in the following locations:

Vimme Vivaldi

Location: Is located in the bank in Hierarch’s Square in central Novigrad.

Vivaldi works with a Scoia’tael deck with plenty of Agile cards. He has an inclination to stack a bunch of unit cards in a single row before using a Commander’s Horn to blow up the damage significantly. Fortunately, he does not seem to have a huge number of Muster unit cards. He does however have a number of Medics in his deck, so prepare to see some familiar cards across rounds. With a well-constructed Northern Realms deck featuring some Tight Bond Units (Blue Stripes Commando + Catapults), Decoys and Spy/Medic cards, you should have no trouble overwhelming him. As always, its also a wise move to switch your leader variant to Foltest with the ability to cast clear weather to help out if you get in a bind in the later rounds.

Defeating him will earn you the ‘Vesemir’ Gwent card.

Note: For beating Vimme Vivaldi you’ll earn 25XP.

Madame Marquise Serenity

Location: Can be found in the Passiflora in central Novigrad.

Marquise Serenity plays with a Nilfgaardian Empire deck containing several hero cards. Like Vivaldi, she has an inclination to stack a bunch of unit cards in a single row before using a Commander’s Horn (which she’ll have several of) to blow up the damage significantly. What you’ll want to look out for whilst playing her is to keep your card strength values down below her higher strength unit cards as she’ll use Scorch as much as she can. She’ll also use Spy and Medic cards on occasion but fortunately she doesn’t seem to have too many of those. With a well-constructed Northern Realms deck featuring some Tight Bond Units (Blue Stripes Commando + Catapults), Decoys and Spy/Medic cards, you should have no trouble overwhelming her. As always, it’s also a wise move to switch your leader variant to Foltest with the ability to cast clear weather to help out if you get in a bind in the later rounds.

Defeating her will earn you the ‘Morvran Voorhis’ Gwent card.

Note: For beating Marquise Serenity you’ll earn 25XP.

She’ll direct you to take on Djikstra to continue with the quest.

Note: If you have completed ‘Reason of State’ and the outcome didn’t fare too well for Djikstra or you compete the main storyline, Djikstra will no longer be available to play and the quest will end at this point. As such you’ll miss out on the ‘Esterad Thyssen’ and ‘Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon’ Gwent cards – so don’t wait too long and instead beat him as soon as you get the chance!

Sigismund Djikstra

Location: Can be found in his usual Bathhouse hangout in Novigrad or in the hidden meeting room in the Passiflora depending on story progression.

Djikstra plays with a Northern Realms deck and will rely on a mainly Siege line approach with plenty of siege engines. His big move is making use of the Catapult’s Tight Bond ability for an instant strength boost. He’ll also frequently use Spy cards and Decoys when available and make use of Weather cards as he gets desperate. In the second and third rounds, you’ll want to keep your card strength values down below her higher strength unit cards as Djikstra loves to use Scorch. Using the Northern Realms, you should be able to use your Decoy cards and Spy/Medic abilities to quickly gain some additional cards in your hand. You’ll also want to try and get him to overcommit early so that you’ll be able to outlast him with your larger hand. Switch your leader to Foltest with the ability to cast clear weather to help out if you get in a bind in the later rounds.

Defeating him will earn you the ‘Esterad Thyssen’ Gwent card.

Note: For beating Djikstra you’ll earn 25XP.

Scoia’tael Merchant

Location: He is located in a small forest camp to the southeast of Novigrad.

The Merchant, like Vivaldi works with a Scoia’tael deck with plenty of Medic and Agile cards. He also has several strength 10+ Unit and hero cards in his deck (the Ciri card is 15!) and will use Weather cards to the max. This fellow is not afraid to use Scorch in the first round (or at any time really), so be sure to keep that in mind when you start laying out big numbers. As with the previous challengers, a well-constructed Northern Realms deck featuring some Tight Bond Units (Blue Stripes Commando + Catapults), Decoys and Spy/Medic cards, you should have no trouble overwhelming him. As always for those who like to rely on Weather cards, it’s also a wise move to switch your leader variant to Foltest with the ability to cast clear weather to help out if you get in a bind in the later rounds.

Defeating him will earn you the ‘Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon’ Gwent card.

Note: For beating the Scoia’tael Merchant you’ll earn 25XP.

Note: For beating all four players you’ll earn the one of the Scoia’tael deck leader card variants ‘Francesca Findabair: The Beautiful’.
