The Long Dark: Joplin’s Bunker Raid Walkthrough

This is an extended sidequest, similar to Hank’s Hatch in Episode 2. To start it, search the backpack next to the dead body in the Thomson’s Crossing store (across the street from the Community Hall).

Note: If you’re playing in Hardened Survivor difficulty mode, the quest trigger will be at a different location. If you follow the road out of Thomson’s Crossing (turning left after leaving the Community Center), you’ll eventually come across a couple of broken-down cabins. These are the Derelict Cabins, and the dead body is in the cabin on the left.

The first shelter is found up in the mountains of Pleasant Valley. If you play Sandbox/Survivor Mode, it’s actually near the transition point to Timberwolf Mountain. Head towards the icon on the map and you’ll eventually find the buildings in the picture below.

Look behind the fallen tree to find the hatch entrance. From there, you’ll need to search the grate in the top right of the bunker for the next note. Pick this one up to get the location of bunker number two.

And of course, be sure to thoroughly loot this bunker for all its goodies. You’ll get some amazing snow pants, a rifle, and plenty of ammunition, just to name a few of things here. And don’t forget to pick up the note on the bed for the Forest Talkers sidequest.

On to bunker two! This one is a little behind Heartbreak bridge, behind some rocks.

The big item to pick up here is a flare gun kit, with a fair number of shells. The next note is, surprise, inside the grate again. You’ll then be directed back towards Community Hall. And don’t forget to pick up the Local Legends book while you’re here!

For the last bunker, head under the bridge to the left of Community Hall, and then follow the river up the hill. You’ll eventually reach a waterfall. While facing the waterfall, turn left and the bunker will be behind a bunch of large rocks.

The last bunker has so many good things I won’t list them all. But to name a few, you can get Mukluks, wool ear-wraps, and a second revolver. There’s also a ton of food, if you’re still struggling to feed Community Hall.
