Witcher 3 Contract Swamp Thing
This quest can be acquired via a notice posted on the Downwarren Notice board.
Note: You’ll be unable to complete this quest unless you possess the Eye of Nehaleni given to you by Keira Metz during ‘Wandering in the Dark’.
After grabbing the notice from the board in Downwarren, you’ll need to head into Crookback Bog and to the objective marker to the southwest of the area. Speak with Leslav who is located nearby. He’ll flesh out some additional details regarding the contract.
We’ll now need to move to our next point of interest – a small search area that is guarded by 5-6 Drowners. Once you have killed them all off, use your Witcher Senses to explore the area. You’ll find a body to examine along with a stone which has an illusion on it. Use the Eye of Nehaleni to dispel the illusion. Inspect the footprints they were hiding.
Our objectives will now update and a new search area will appear to the south. Note that there is a lot of gas around here which will slowly drain Geralt’s breath – so be quick! When you reach the search area, look around the western side of the house to find a body. Inspect this to update your objectives once again.
A new search area will appear to the south once again. Head in here and in the southern, central part of the search zone, if you have your Witcher Senses on, you’ll find a point of interest. The pile of rocks here is, yep, you guessed it, an illusion! Move up and whip out your Eye of Nehaleni to dispel the illusion.
Enter the cave and in the first area, you’ll be immediately attacked by a pair of Foglets. Fight them both off before proceeding further. Continue into the cave until a scene plays.
Boss: Ignis Faluus (Foglet)
Ignis is essentially a bigger, badder version of the standard Foglet. Fortunately though, the tactics that work on the usual Foglets will, for the most part, work once again in this situation.
Ignis is very fast and can perform some very swift swipe attacks. He’ll also regularly blend into the fog and reappear behind Geralt to attempt to catch you off guard. As such, be prepared to dodge, a lot.
Fortunately, there are a few tools at your disposal to make the fight a little easier. It is possible to use AXII to stun it or AARD to knock it to the floor and follow up with some melee attacks topress your advantage. It is also a good idea to keep a QUEN shield active at all times due to the high damage the boss can dish out. Other than that, use your dodges and rolls to avoid its melee attacks whilst smacking him with your own attacks when you see an opening.
Once Ignis is dead, loot the body for the Foglet Trophy, Foglet Mutagen and any other goodies it was carrying.
Now we mosey on back into the swamp and speak with Leslav once again to end the side-quest.
Note: At this point, you’ll earn 300XP and 255 Crowns.
