Fallout: New Vegas How to Get The (Base) Companion Quests

The title says it all, this guide is supposed to help show how to get all companions and their quests in the same playthrough. While it’s not that hard to get them all, it is very much possible to lock yourself out of getting the companion’s quest.

Fallout: New Vegas How to Get The (Base) Companion Quests

Requirements to get the quest

Pre-note: I recommend doing Boone first, since he is the most easiest to lock yourself out of. All the other companions should all be very do-able at any point of the game, unless you sided against the NCR or are one of those people who kill every NPC you can kill.

Arcade Ganon

To even have the possibility to get his quest, requires you to not be siding with Caesar’s Legion, though you can still get him as a companion via. faction armor. First, you must gain 5 points to gain his trust, here are ways to get it:

  • 1 point for visiting the crashed vertibird, (Southwest of Camp Searchlight) (He has to comment on it)
  • 1 point for visiting the REPCONN headquarters, (Visible when going to NV from the 188 Trade Post) (He has to comment on it)
  • 1/2 points for visiting The Fort where Caesar lives/d. (Say: “Let’s just listen to him, figure out waht he’s up to, and get out.”)
  • 1/2 points when Caesar is alive and talked to. (He’ll talk to you, pass an intelligence check of 8 to get 2 points) (Or “He’s a madman. What did you expect?” for 1.)
  • 1/2 points for talking with Thomas Hildern, he’s at Camp McCarran. (Arcade will talk to you, choose “Good thing there are still people like you around.” for 2 points.)
  • 1 point when doing That Lucky Old Sun, he’ll talk to you after talking to Fantastic or when getting to the mainframe. (Choose “Of course.” or “Why not the whole are equally?” then pass a lv. 7 intelligence check for 1 point. You can then not do what he suggested.)
  • There are more point to be gained in the quest: The White Wash. But these should be enough.

After getting 5 points, he’ll give you his quest when you finish The House Always Wins V, Wild Card: Change in Management, For the Republic, Part 2, or Wild Card: Finishing Touches. (Note that he’ll offer it even if you finished one of these quests before recruiting him.)

Craig Boone

There are two requirements for Boone’s quest, first, you need to have talked with Manny Vargas (Novac) or Bitter-Root (Camp McCarran) about their tour of duty in the NCR. Second, you must aquire 5 “history points” with Boone. Those you can get in these ways:

  • 1 point for killing Vulpus Inculta (The furry you encounter in Nipton) (Note: When killing him in the Strip, the robots won’t get angy)
  • 1 point for killing Silus, the captured Legion prisoner (One of a kind!
  • 1 point for confronting & killing the Spy in Camp McCarran in the quest “I Put a Spell on You”.
  • 2 points for killing Caesar (Not sure but I think he has to be there to see it)
  • 2 points for rescuing the enslaved Powder Gangers in the quest “Booted”.
  • 3-1 points depending on how you go about the hostages in Nelson. Kill them for 1, rescue for 2. Free them, have him comment on it, then wait ~15 seconds and then kill one, which gains you 3 points.
  • 2 points for eradicating the Legion at Cottonwood Cove HOWEVER only when Eye for an Eye is active, when the objective says: “Kill all Legionaries in Cottonwood Cove”.

After getting those 5 points, wait until he approaches you and then tell him to go back to Bitter Springs and acompany him there.

Lily Bowen

Lily here is much easier than the other two, needing no points to be fullfilled, you only need to have done 4 things:

  • Talked about Leo with her.
  • Talked about her psychotic breaks (Happen when she is under 50% health)
  • Talked about her medicine (She’ll take it from time to time)
  • Have slept, waited, or fast travelled with her

That’s all you need to do to get her quest.

Raul Tejada

After freeing Raul in Black Mountain, you unlocked his quest. Kinda. Talk through all dialogue options for Loyal, the Boomer (in more ways than one, Corporal Sterling, who is found in Camp McCarran, and Ranger Andy, located in Novac. Wait, talking with those three already unlocks his upgrade.

Rose of Sharon Cassidy

To unlock her quest, you simply need to recruit her as a companion, done by working for the Crimson Caravan after they got the rights to her caravan company, This’ll require a barter / speech check of 50, or other.

Veronica Santagelo

To get her quest, you simply need to do 3 out of 9 possible things with her.

  • Visit the Casa Madrid Apartments, just get Tom Anderson to say “I’m with the Followers of the Apocalypse.”
  • Visit Vault 3
  • VIsiting Nelson/ Cottomwood Cove / The Fort and staying there for a minute or so. (All in one point, as they apparently share the same trigger)
  • Visiting Camp McCarran, to be more percise, inside the terminal building.
  • Talking with Dr. Hildern for the first time.
  • Visit the Nellis Boomer museum, and listen to Pete’s whole lecture.
  • Talking with Julie Farkas in the Old Mormon Fort for the first time.
  • Talking with Jason Bright, in the REPCONN test site, about the Great Journey. (First time only)
  • Talk with Gloria Van Graff, found inside the Silver Rush.

ED-E

Repair ED-E and then you need to trigger two dialogues, the first one you can trigger by talking to:

  • Old Lady Gibson, north of Novac, for the first time then going through the dialogue options.
  • The NCR Troopers in front of HELIOS One
  • Ignacio Rivas in HELIOS One about ARCHIMEDES and the Brotherhood of Steel.
  • Doctor Henry in Jacobstown about his experience with the Elclave, alternatively with Calamity if For Auld Lang Syne is already complete.
  • Knight Torres, quartermaster of the Brotherhood of Steel armory in Hidden Valley.
  • Apprentice Watkins, in Hidden Valley, about HELIOS One.
  • Thomas Hildern.
  • Colonel Moore, about the first assignment for “For the Republic, Part 2.”
  • Michael Angelo sign artist in the Strip, about his “lack of inspiration” and then doing the medicine check. (Also works when failing)
  • Robert House, about the Brotherhood of Steel at the start of The House Always Wins V.
  • Quatermaster Mayes in Camp Forlorn Hope about the qest “Restoring Hope”.
  • Brotherhood of Steel paladins in Hidden Valley. (One of their lines triggers it)

After triggering the first log, wait five days before hunting for the secon one. The second dialogue, audio file, log, is unlocked when:

  • Listening to the Brotherhood Scribe Teacher in class.
  • Talking to Michael Angelo, sign artist, about his inspiration.
  • Talking to Veronica during “I Could Make You Care” or when accessing Father Elijah’s terminal.
  • Helping the Brotherhood of Steel by removing the NCR Ranger nearby Hidden Valley. Afterwards.
  • Talking to Apprentice Watkins about her parents, decisions, and computers in Hidden Valley.
  • Talking to Doctor Hildern after Doctor Williams warns you about Vault 22.
  • Talking to Ignacio Rivas at HELIOS One during That Lucky Old Sun.

(Isn’t that technically the quest? It’s not marked as one, is it?)
