The Witcher 3: Contract Dragon Walkthrough

Contract: Dragon Walkthrough

Contract: Dragon Walkthrough: Skellige Isles Witcher Contracts

Start Location: This quest can be acquired via a notice posted on the Fyresdal Notice board in southern Ard Skellig.

After grabbing the side-quest from the notice board in Fyresdal, you can start it by speaking with an NPC named Vagn in town. You’ll learn that there has been a recent Dragon attack and he’ll request that we track it down and kill it.

Following the conversation, make your way over to the house nearby indicated by the objective marker. Speak with Karli inside about the contract. Once you have quizzed her using all the available conversation options, our objectives will update.

Switch on Witcher Senses and inspect the pair of bodies on the floor here.

Exit the building and look at the map. At this point, we’ll want to make our way to the objective marker along the road to the north of Fyresdal. After arriving at the site of the attack, examine the investigation area. Activate Geralt’s Witcher Senses and explore the area. You can inspect the following points of interest:

  • Dead cow on the side of the road.
  • The blood splatter on the rocks behind the dead cow.

After examining the initial blood spatter, you’ll notice that there is a trail of blood leading away from the area. Activate your Witcher Sense and follow this trail a short distance until the tracks stop. At this point, examine the dead dog on the ground here.

At this point Geralt will figure out what he is up against.

Note: At this point you’ll earn 25XP.

Now that we know what the monster is, we’ll now need to make our way back to the village of Fyresdal and speak with the elder, Vagn about it.

After the conversation, we’ll be given a sheep. Geralt will need to herd it out of town and over to the objective marker close to the nest we spotted earlier. The sheep will run away from Geralt, so stay behind it and try to move in the opposite direction from where you want it to go in order to force it in the right direction.

As you approach the nest with the sheep the boss fight will begin in earnest.

Boss: Dragon (Forktail)

The Dragon of Fyresdal, like most Forktails looks a lot more intimidating than it actually is and this fight is reminiscent to the Basilisk, Cockatrice and Griffin fights we’ve encountered earlier in the game. Fortunately, it acts in much the same way as the aforementioned monsters and as such the tactics remain essentially the same.

Whilst it does have wings, for the most part it will attack from the ground and is quite fast. It will commonly use its speed and mouth full of teeth to lunge at Geralt from range or perform pouncing attacks. Similar to the Basilisks it is able to spit green projectiles at you which will poison Geralt if it makes contact. When it is in the air, it will try a swooping attack that can be easily rolled under/away from but will hit like a tonne of bricks if not avoided.

The easiest way to take it down quickly is to use a combination of AXII to stun it, IGNI and AARD to dish out damage or YRDEN to slow its movements to get a few attacks in. It is also quite susceptible to damage from Grapeshot Bombs. Whilst in the air, hit it with crossbow bolts or AARD whilst it is flying to bring it crashing to the ground – run up and smash it a few times and then use your dodges and rolls to avoid its ground-based attacks whilst dishing out your own attacks when you see an opening. Repeat this process until it hits the dust.

Once the Dragon of Fyresdal is dead, loot the body for the Forktail Trophy, Forktail Hide, Dragon Scales, Forktail Mutagen and any other goodies it was carrying.

Now that the contract has been dealt with, we can return to the town of Fyresdal and speak with Vagn once again. Report on what has happened and during the conversation lie and exaggerate your claims to earn the full reward, if you are honest about the nature of the monster, the elder will only give you half of what was promised.

Either way the conversation goes down, once it ends, so to will the side-quest.

Note: At this point, you’ll earn 200XP and 208 Crowns for exaggerating or 102 Crowns for being honest.
